AFT is a simple but effective technique for using your Young Living’s essential oils, combined with intention and awareness, to breakthrough and transform the negative thoughts, feelings, emotions and memories that may be holding you back.
Dr. Perkus, the creator of AFT, has taught internationally on trauma release, brain wellness, and personal fulfillment using essential oils.
The Aroma Freedom Technique (AFT) uses the power of aromatherapy to release blocks that hold you back from manifesting your heart’s desires.
What does the Aroma Freedom Technique (AFT) do?
It uses a combination of traditional/familiar and accepted psychotherapeutic approaches with aromatherapy as a means of interrupting negative thought/emotional patterns. The Aroma Freedom Technique quickly and easily releases you from your negative thoughts, feelings, emotions and memories that are holding you back and preventing you from achieving your goals, dreams and desires. The Aroma Freedom Technique is a way to quickly identify and let go of thoughts and feelings that are not in alignment with our heartfelt intentions.
How does the Aroma Freedom Technique (AFT) work?
Using a blend of aromatherapy and coaching, the Aroma Freedom Technique releases emotional blocks that prevent you from manifesting your heart's desires and achieving your dreams.
How can the Aroma Freedom Technique (AFT)help me?
The Aroma Freedom Technique (AFT) is designed to help you be your best self.
Aroma Freedom Techniques (AFT) specifically focuses on identifying your goals and intentions and releasing the thoughts and emotions that are holding you back. At the beginning of the session, you will get clear on what it is that you wish to manifest. You are then guided through a discovery process that will help you identify the underlying thoughts, emotions, experiences, and beliefs that hinder you from meeting your goal(s). Using essential oils, you will release the blocked energy and create space for new beliefs and experiences to emerge. Once released, you and I will create an action plan to help you achieve your goal. You will receive a small bottle of essential oil to work with following the session. Sessions are 45-60 minutes
How do I schedule a session?
A session can be done 1 on 1 or in a small group setting either in person or via an online meeting such as Zoom. If your session is not in person we have to ensure you have the correct Young Living essential oils on hand.
AFT is not a replacement for traditional/familiar psychotherapy and no diagnoses are made or treated during sessions. Please consult your physician or therapists to discuss any changes to your current therapeutic routine.
I recall one of the songs I used to sing from my favorite rock band. It was called Never Surrender. A I reflect on those words now and how much I believe in the power of my words, I regret this was a song I sang over and over. I see both sides to it, however. While it may have helped me not give up and push through certain aspects in my life, it may have hindered me from also accepting an outcome that I could not change. Let me explain.
I recently phoned a friend and discussed a leadership class I had taken years ago. These are experiential learning classes where you don’t get lectured, but rather you experientially learn and have these major “Aha”moments. Literally, HUGE moments of what programs are running your life. My friend facilitates this work and I told her I needed her to walk me through the point of an exercise we did in the class. The class was 15 years earlier, but I felt like it was being brought to my attention as I was working through my parent’s elder care journey now.
During the exercise, I found myself getting rather agitated as I was asked to sit in a room with all my other classmates and repetitiously do an exercise with my eyes closed. There was not much to this exercise and as I sat in my chair with my eyes closed my agitation grew. You see, there has to be a point to everything I do. My palms were in my lap and then the facilitator walked me and everyone else through the commands, “palms together, palms apart”. Nothing else. This went on for over 2 hours while I completely missed the point behind the exercise!
Throughout the experience, many of my classmates received “the tap” on the shoulder asking them to quietly move to the outer sides of the room to watch the rest of us still sitting in the middle of the room. We, of course, had no idea what our classmates did that allowed them to be relieved of this awful agitation, but I could tell that movement was going on around me. I tossed and turned in my chair feeling desperately like I was missing out. Today, I describe it as a gerbil in a cage running on the wheel to nowhere and completely wasting my time. Palms together, palms apart. Over and over and over. I was one of the last ones in the room of 50+ people, still sitting, no tap on the shoulder, palms together, palms apart.
As I asked my dear friend, what was that exercise about? Thankfully, she did not laugh as this was now 15 years later and I STILL didn’t know. I thought, “Had I learned nothing”? This exercise was to help me with my situation today. You see, I have one compliant and one non-compliant elderly parent both with vascular dementia. The non-compliant parent basically takes every suggestion and wants to do the opposite. I felt strongly in my heart that 15 years earlier, I was being prepped. My friend responded, “That exercise was about surrender”. She said, “...it does not mean you like the situation or have to agree with it, it means this is what cards were dealt and fighting it or “never surrendering” is only going to make it harder and use up your energy.” It is about accepting where you are in life, watching your parents in their Golden Years, but instead of sitting on the porch in a rocking chair telling you their life story or imparting wisdom, you spend hours managing their world. All your spare time is expending energy to make the most out of their years left.
The only thing I could change in my elder care situation was surrendering to know that I could only do my best, accept that my parent was in this current state of physical and emotional pain because of decisions made years ago that I had nothing to do with. I have choice. I could walk away and abandon or ignore like happens so often in families, or I could be there and know that I was responsible for helping another human being as a care advocate and making the best choices I knew how. Surrendering to this meant that I would not waste energy on things that could not be different and giving myself positive energy to know that the choices were the best options available allowing me to be guilt free on a journey that proved to be tough. Surrendering is a state of mind. And, I could also look to the present to see what great opportunities I was learning. And not only that, I could look to the future to see how this would be used for my good and how I would thrive from the knowledge that others chose not to gain. Suddenly, surrendering presented the opportunity of a lifetime.
Is surrendering easy? Of course not. If you are like me, you might need a little help with it. Fortunately, Young Living created an essential oil blend called Surrender to help you through your journey! Learn how this oil blend can help you overcome resentment, irritability, anxiety and the need to be argumentative among a few other things related to the journey you are facing that requires your surrender.
Surrender™ is a blend of Lavender, Black Spruce, Roman Chamomile, and other essential oils that provides aromas to help cast off inhibitions that may be controlling your life or limiting your potential.

What are the Benefits of an Essential Oil Mind/Body Transformation Session?
Physical and Emotional Healing
Do you know anyone that has a physical condition that seemingly is not improving? Did you know that almost every ailment or disease has an emotional root? Now, I know that some physical conditions were caused by an unexpected accident; perhaps by a serious car wreck, work related injury (especially military) or sports injury. One might think that nothing emotional led up to these. I would argue otherwise, but at a minimum you probably won’t deny that a host of emotions definitely showed up after the injury that caused blocks in the body’s ability to heal.
These blocks might look like anger, resentment, frustration, sadness, sorrow, fear etc. and sound like the following. What if I never get out of pain? What if I never walk again? What if I can’t be the parent my child needs me to be on the baseball field? What if I can never return to work and provide for my family? These are all very real thoughts to the person that lives in chronic pain, chronic sadness, chronic fear. I propose that if you do not get the emotions in a better space and unlocked from the psyche, the healing will never happen.
Do you realize though that the body will lock emotions, which are a frequency (watch my video on Essential Oil Mind/Body Integration Sessions for further understanding), in the cells of the body? It will lock them where you least expect them. It may store anger in the liver, resentment in the bladder, sorrow in the pancreas and fear in the kidneys and you and your doctor will NEVER connect the two. This will lead to new health issues like bladder infections etc. that only further complicate your healing journey.
So back to why are these type of sessions necessary for assisting with healing and disease? Essential oils are a powerful way to address emotional blocks in the body and the training necessary to perform these sessions looks at not only the physical issue but can link it back to the active memory or the foundation of the physical issue. In fact, do you know the active memory may not even be yours? It could be resentment from a generation or more back. That ancestor locked it into their cells and sent a package of emotions to you through the DNA and you don’t even know it.
Have you ever really thought about an emotion you have had and wonder, “Why do I think like that or feel this way?” Maybe there is no premise for it. Or maybe you lost someone close to you and despite counseling you still feel the pain. That’s because it is locked somewhere in the body and talk therapy does not know to address this.
Essential oils assist in addressing the emotions and the mind/body integration session helps you learn the root cause, where it is stored and assists the body in unlocking the code to move you to a new space. The good news is these sessions cover the whole mind/body landscape on a five senses sensory experience. This aids the healing process in a more expedient manner. So even though you may be weary from the journey, if this message resonated with you, there is a good chance that you still have options to lessen the impact your ailment has in your life. I encourage you to watch this video and book your session today.
Do you remember the last time your faith was tested? Perhaps now? Maybe you lost your job and didn’t know how you were going to make ends meet. Or how about the person that has been diagnosed with a serious health concern? Perhaps you and your spouse are currently separated and considering divorce? What about a broken family where members are not in agreement about major life plans or decisions?
Have you considered this verse from the Bible below that talks about how little faith is required to get through challenges like the ones listed above?
If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, “Move from here to there,” and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.—Matthew 17:20
But what does it mean? Mustard seeds are really, really small. Have you noticed that your faith always seems small in comparison to the problem, otherwise, it would not be a problem now would it?
Most times we miss that a small amount of faith can lead to a big result. Think of that Captain “Sully” Sullenberger when he landed that plane with the failing engines on the Hudson River. He was probably the ONLY one on that plane that had at least a small amount of faith for 155 passengers and crew. The Faith of the one seemed small in comparison to the problem and the number of other people on that flight.
When you focus on a problem that seems gigantic, remember that your God, or whatever your source, is bigger than that problem. Therefore, we are reminded that only a small amount of faith is required if you believe that your source is as big as the universe.
What does Faith look like? Faith is knowing that the doors of opportunity will open for you as you discover them. Faith is having the patience to wait for the doors and opportunities to surface. Faith is applying wisdom to make important decisions. Faith is recognizing the prompting or hunch from your true ultimate guide (T.U.G.) that is guiding you to divine ideas and divine resources to make things happen.
So what do you do when you can’t seem to muster up just a small amount of faith? What if Faith could be bottled? Well, actually, it has been.

Emotions or feelings. We all have them yet some days we may not know exactly how to handle them. Have you ever felt like you were betrayed, like you wanted to get revenge on someone or you continue to repeat the past and have feelings of distrust towards others including yourself? Is resentment keeping your from forgiving the person that caused you harm? Is it possible you need to forgive someone or even yourself? Do you feel like you still carry that negativity with you because you have not forgiven the offender? Did you know that holding on to that negativity affects the cells, your health and the harmony within your body?
These types of feelings/thoughts start to create disharmony in your body. Negative emotions or feelings start to create disharmony in every cell in your body which leads to disease. In fact your organs are affected by resentment and other negative thoughts that forgiveness can address. The acid thoughts produce acid in the blood. This is created because you are fighting a battle that is better won through forgiveness.
Picture an EKG machine where you can literally see your heartbeat on the monitor and watch the energy waves goes up and down. Doctors can see disharmony by watching the monitor. When we let negative emotions or feelings affect us it causes a frequency of imbalance in our body.
What if all we really needed was the power to forgive. I recall a newscast where a young man had killed another young man in an inner city. After a few years and a few attempts, the mother of the victim was finally admitted by the killer to visit him in prison. She visited him for the purpose of forgiving him for killing her son. When asked by the news reporter how she had the strength to face her son’s killer and forgive him she stated, “Forgiveness is for me!”
Experiencing positive thoughts can create harmony in the cells and in our body. A nice gesture, a kind word, and gratitude from others has a healing power and so does forgiveness. Not everyone may be able to take this step all on their own like that mother. This is when we wish Forgiveness could be bottled. Well, actually, it has been.
Forgiveness essential oil by Young Living helps enhances the ability to forgive yourself and others while letting go of negative emotions, which is an important part of personal growth. This generally helps with feelings of betrayal, distrust, repeating the past, revenge and self-denial. There’s no substitute for pure, natural Young Living essential oils
You may have heard that essential oils can be used in the home as a natural substitute for unwanted chemicals, toxic products and synthetic ingredients. That’s all true! But what you may not know is that not all essential oils are the same, and there are definitely best practices for use.
Not all essential oils are created equally. Always be sure that you’re getting a pure, undiluted essential oil – such as those created by Young Living. Fragrance oils, for example, are NOT the same as essential oils. They may smell similar, but fragrance oils do not retain the same properties and qualities as undiluted essential oils.
In addition, most quality essential oils should come in brown or blue glass bottles. This helps retain potency and efficacy for as long as possible. Essential oils should be stored away from heat and direct sunlight to preserve their quality over the natural course of their shelf life.
Other important tips:
Only use the amount of an essential oil as directed for a specific purpose, or called for in a recipe. As with everything in life, moderation is key. More isn’t always better – it can sometimes cause irritation depending on your level of sensitivity.
Sometimes it’s necessary to dilute an essential oil in a quality carrier oil, such as Young Living’s V-6. You can learn more about how and why to use a carrier oil here.

Five Suprises
So these oils may be for the “everyday” routine, but there’s nothing mundane about them. Here are five surprises about the oils in this collection.
2. When using Peppermint or Thieves as a supplement, you should dilute one drop into four ounces of liquid. You can put them into a liquid like goat’s milk or rice milk. It’s a surprising but refreshing mix.
3. Stress Away is the first product to contain the stress-relieving combination of lime and vanilla pure, therapeutic-grade essential oils. With the addition of copaiba, lavender and other ingredients, the unique blend can help induce relaxation.
5. PanAway was created by Gary Young following a severe injury to the ligaments in his leg. The oil blend can be used to soothe the skin after exercise.
1. Watch what you eat. Food is your first wave of medicine. Your diet does affect the clarity of your thoughts in the same way that it affects your body’s overall wellbeing. Refined white sugar, white flour, saturated and trans fats are not foods that will protect your brain or memory or any other part of the body for that matter. These health-sabotaging foods will also decrease overall mental focus and create a sense of physical agitation or downright moodiness. If you want to improve your mood and keep your mind primed, cut out the junk food. A calm mind is a focused mind.
2. Do not deprive yourself of sleep or rest. A tired or fatigued brain is a brain that is not regenerating nor restoring its energy. When you miss getting adequate rest your performance level suffers and moodiness sets in. The longer the deprivation, the greater and the more rapid the mental decay. Studies indicate that when people have been sleep deprived for too long they begin to hallucinate and display signs of madness. The good news is that with quality, uninterrupted and re-cooperative sleep, the fatigue goes away rather quickly and you return to your right mind.
3. Eat brain-boosting foods. The best foods for the brain are also great for the nervous system, immune system and the skin. Brain friendly foods include wild caught salmon, blueberries, leafy green vegetables, avocados, and sprouted nuts. For those of you who do not have the cleanest of diets, know that cacao beans are high on the list of brain friendly foods. Look for dark chocolate made with 70% or more cacao and, of course, organic is the best choice for any foods you consume.
4. Try a Cold Laser Treatment. This boosts the lymphatic system, supports drainage and keeps the fluid moving. Cold laser sessions are completely painless and often times yield immediate results. Cold laser sessions offer a safe treatment option for the very old or very young or those already weakened by drugs or chronic illness. Acupuncturists, chiropractors and other alternative health practitioners may offer cold laser treatments in conjunction with their ongoing health care packages. Or check for cold laser treatment centers in your area.
5. Avoid cold beverages and food. Avoid ingesting iced beverages and foods straight from the refrigerator. The greatest sea of lymphatic tissue is in the digestive system. The body functions best at a temperature of 98.6 degrees. Healthy lymph feels like oil water and is pumped throughout the body primarily by the skeletal muscles. It needs this warm environment to remain in the healthy fluid-like state. When you eat or drink cold foods and liquids, it stuns the lymph system causing the oily water lymph to congeal into a more jello-like consistency impeding its free flowing movement throughout the body.
6. Release toxins thru Massage. Lymphatic drainage massage specifically targets the lymph system. It aids in the breaking up of congestion within the lymph system, tones and supports the lymph nodes as well as facilitates the fluid’s movement throughout the body. Massage works directly on the entire digestive system and is a powerful technique for lymphatic care. You can learn techniques such as Chi Nei Tsang, which is designed to be self-administered. Once you learn how to do it, you have a lifetime of free treatments. A deep-tissue massage is also effective in the release of the stored toxins.
