How Much Sugar Do You Really Eat?

Diet/Nutrition | Supplements

How Much Sugar Do You Really Eat?

You might be surprised to learn the foods that “qualify” as sugar in your diet.  If I were to ask most people how much sugar they eat, they would consider the candy or soda they consumed in the last week and more than likely assume their diet is low in sugar.  But what about the rest of your diet that you may not categorize as sugar?

Consider that our consumption of fructose (a.k.a. High Fructose Corn Syrup) has doubled in the past 30 years and has increased 6-fold in the last century.  It’s cheap and easy to hide in foods and takes the place of the flavor of “fats” in our food which allowed the Fat-Free diet craze.  That’s why those Fat-Free foods taste so good!  You will find it (high fructose corn syrup) in yogurt, breads, frozen pizza, pasta, cereal bars, jam, soda, cereal, boxed macaroni & cheese, salad dressing, tomato sauces, applesauce, canned fruit etc.

Now let me ask the question again.  How much sugar do you really eat?  I encourage you to watch the video below regarding how to address purifying your body of sugars and other toxins in 21 days.  In this video, you will see a shocking example of the amount of sugar you may actually be eating in a given day!

When you eat too much of the kinds of foods referenced above you may start to experience:

  • Quick absorption of these foods and storing them as fat tricking your metabolic hormones
  • Destruction of Leptin sensitivity (Leptin is the hormone that tells your brain whether you are starving or satisfied)
  • Increased inflammation
  • Increased opportunity to develop obesity, diabetes, metabolic disease

And what if you got addicted to the carbs in the process?  This can happen due to special preservatives used in foods today that won’t allow you a fighting chance.  I call this the potato chip technique.  It's easier to have the potato chip company get you to buy a second bag than for a non-chip eater to buy the first bag.  There are actually preservatives that help increase the cravings and make you want to consume more chips.  How’s that going to support your diet plans?

There are a number of ways to start reversing the damage from eating too many carbohydrates.

  1. Purification Program - Only takes 21 days to turn this trend around.  Order Now and receive a discount through January 31, 2018.  Order Now
  2. Drink more water which can assist in tricking Leptin into believing you are satisfied.
  3. Take herbs to counter the carbohydrate cravings - Gymnema (Included in 21 Day Purification Program above). Other products that curb cravings and help with appetite control are Slique® products by Young Living. Slique products are designed to support healthy weight-management efforts.
  4. Reduce Stress - Stress increases hormones that make your body crave sugar!
  5. Hormone balancing through BodyTalk sessions to clear insulin resistance or insulin over-production.

Contact my office if you have questions regarding any of the above.

Find out if you can benefit from the purification program! Our toxicity questionnaire will help your practitioner assess your potential need for the purification program or other Standard Process or Med

iHerb® products. The toxicity questionnaire only takes a few minutes of your time. Save as a pdf, print or email your results to yourself and our office, and contact me for a consultation.

Fill out the toxicity questionnaire now!

Do You Really Need Vitamin Supplementation?

Posted In:
Diet/Nutrition | Featured | Supplements

Do you really need vitamin supplementation?

My opinion over the years on this has changed and I do believe that it is not possible for us to eat enough organic, healthy food to supplement our bodies against the many toxins we face today.

Our foods are not grown the way they were intended and there are very few farmers committed to growing those foods at pure organic strength.  Farming practices have changed and simple things like crop rotation to properly mineralize the soil is no longer happening.  Chemicals are used to kill pests and fertilize our crops all of which end up in the plants and in our bodies.   Manufacturing practices have also created an onslaught of processing opportunities to create foods faster and allow them to sit on grocery shelves longer. That means preservatives. Let’s also consider the way our crops are now shipped across the world.  Nearly 60% of vitamin C is lost in an orange just by rolling across the room on the floor 10 feet.  Imagine shipping around the world?

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) creates recommended levels (RDAs) of essential vitamins and minerals and seeks to provide the level supported in medical literature that will:

  • optimize health
  • minimize chronic disease
  • promote healthy aging

To demonstrate the lack of nutrient rich soil, take a look at some of the mineral losses in our food supply:

  • Calcium levels down 48%
  • Iron levels down 96%
  • Magnesium levels down 83%
  • Zinc levels down 38%

The number of mineral losses in the foods that reach our tables in the last 100 years is alarming.  When you combine farming practices above with food processing losses here, you can see why vitamin and mineral supplementation is important.

Food Processing Losses

  • Up to 60% of Vitamin C
  • 40% of Vitamin B2
  • 30% of Vitamin B1

Mineral losses have also declined from blanching, canning, and freezing foods.  So now you see that unless you are truly eating organic, non-GMO (genetically modified organism) foods you are risking mineral loss.  Vitamin and mineral loss paves the way for cancer promoting environments, dementia, cardiovascular disease, glucose metabolism issues etc.

How do you know what supplements are right for you based on your age, prescription medications and lifestyle?  There is one most important thing you need to know.  If synthetic non-organic foods lose their strength to give you vitamins and minerals, then it makes sense that supplementing your body should only be with companies committed to creating non-synthetic, Non-GMO, organic, gluten, soy and dairy free products.

Here is a great opportunity to take advantage of a free health assessment that considers you as a unique individual to provide recommendations for your unique health status.  I recommend this assessment and their products because they are all based on medical research (other companies are not doing this.) Watch this video for more details and then create your HIPAA compliant account with a username and password.  You have complete and total control to order what you need.  You will notice a difference within 30-90 days.

What is your Wellness Strategy for the New Year?

Posted In:
Articles | Blog | Diet/Nutrition | Exercise | Featured | Health News | Mind/Body | Supplements

What is your Wellness Strategy for the New Year?

Don’t have one?  Before you create a Wellness strategy, let’s define what this means.

The word Strategy is defined in a business dictionary as the following:

  1. A method or plan chosen to bring about a desired future, such as achievement of a goal or solution to a problem.
  2. The art and science of planning and marshalling resources for their most efficient and effective use.

Now, for the dictionary definition of Wellness:

  1. The quality or state of being healthy in body and mind, especially as the result of deliberate effort.
  2. An approach to healthcare that emphasizes preventing illness and prolonging life, as opposed to emphasizing treating diseases.

Wellness is about not just physical, but also mental well-being.  So any plan that does not include both will fall short of the goal of Wellness.

Have you ever known anyone, you or a family member, that could shed the first 20 pounds, but then hit a wall or block on the last 15 pounds?  There is a very real reason for this and until you know the truth about what that extra baggage is about, your Wellness Strategy will be unproductive.   And that is contrary to the definition of Strategy above where it references “...marshalling resources for their most efficient and effective use.”

Here are five steps to move you closer to developing your personal strategy.

  1. Out with the old and in with the new.  Cleansing your body systems especially after the holidays is a step in the right direction to shedding pounds and old belief systems.  When the body is exposed to the toxic fumes from exhausts, chemical cleaners,  perfumes, and household cleaners, a cleanse is a great way to move those through.  Cleanses also create the vehicle to move out old emotions that latch on at the cellular level.  Learn more about Purification Programs.
  2. Support your body systems with everyday maintenance.  Did you know that your body has innate wisdom to help you function each day?  It looks like this; your body heals after surgery or cutting your finger, your immune system supports you through colds and flu and you don’t even need to tell it what to do.  What if you could provide your body support to enhance these systems for further reinforcement?  Look no further, you only need a six hour course called; BodyTalk Access.
  3. Provide yourself proper nutrition. The purification program teaches you new foods to eat that support your body systems to allow for proper detox pathways to be engaged.  However, today’s farming practices and food processing have made it difficult to receive proper supplementation.  Not to mention each person is incredibly unique so the only way to properly supplement is to make sure you are working with a healthcare professional or use a health assessment to identify your unique needs.  Watch a video to learn more.
  4. Face your emotional blocks! Most people don’t realize that their emotions lock into many parts of the body especially the fat cells.  And emotions left unchecked can lead to a host of imbalances in the body that will eventually lead to disease not to mention weight issues.  Emotions can block any area of life such as: Fitness, Finance, Family, Field (career), Faith, Friends, and even Fun.  Do you know anyone that has some emotions around any of these areas in life?   In order to have a complete Wellness Strategy that brings health to body and mind AND assists in “...marshalling resources for their most efficient and effective use…”  one must be willing to address emotional blocks in your journey.  And if you are not, this Wellness Strategy is NOT for you.  We recommend the following seven week program to address emotional blocks.
  5. Fine tune maintenance of body systems.  Be active.  Work with a qualified trainer or participate at your local recreation center.  Find something to keep your body moving.  There is no substitute.  Check out IDTransformation and take the challenge.  By doing so, you will receive free access to our IDWellness app that provides you 3D body modeling of your body’s fitness journey, daily nutrition menus,  daily workouts with video guidance, Wellness video library, Wellness education blogs and community.

Chronic Stress and Anxiety

Stress and Anxiety, It's Your Choice

What can eat at your nervous system, break down your adrenal glands, hyper-stimulate your pancreas, which causes erratic up and down blood sugar swings, cause sleep deprivation, and eventually destroy relationships?  You guessed it – chronic stress and anxiety.

It is nearly impossible to do anything about stress and anxiety until you identify and address the cause of the problem.  It could be family, job, marriage, social problems, health or a

multitude of other issues.    While you are working out the cause of stress and anxiety you must take action to keep it in check.  Prescription drugs should be a last resort.

Chronic stress and anxiety breaks down the adrenal/pancreas function.  Your body is constantly bombarded with adrenalin, making you more nervous and tense.  The adrenalin attack signals your pancreas into an on and off syndrome of hyper-secreting insulin, followed by a temporary shutdown. This wreaks havoc on the blood sugar levels pushing you from hypoglycemia with all its symptoms to a diabetic state, back and forth, over and over.  this may also be the reason one will gain wait around the middle that they just can’t seem to lose.

The only real answer is to turn off this syndrome at the cause but if you can’t do that immediately, you can ease the effects with nutrition to supplement the glands most affected.  Standard Process has products to support the adrenal glands, pancreas, and heart.  The natural anti-stress product Drenamin, a mineral tranquilizer Min-Tran, and heart destressor Cataplex G.  Also add Blue Ice™ High Vitamin Cod Liver Oil daily as brain food.

Sleep is imperative – try two natural anti-insomnia products Catalyn and Min-Tran and don’t forget to exercise - cardio and weightlifting are best.  Hard exercise is a natural destressor.  In addition to exercise, practice meditation or deep breathing – nothing calms things down like a few deep cleansing breaths.  In through the nose and out through the mouth.  One other effective technique is the Tahiti Vacation Relaxation Technique.

The worse thing to do with chronic stress and anxiety is nothing.  After a long day, you owe it to your mind and body to give it the rest it deserves.  To order the products listed above contact me.

Need Vitamin F?

Check out this Amazing List of Symptoms it Addresses

Have you ever heard of vitamin F?  Most people ask me, “what’s it for?”  I respond, “It might be easier if I told you what it didn’t help.”  It is a very versatile vitamin and I think very much under promoted.

Vitamin F is helpful for men and women.  It is an unsaturated fatty acid which in invaluable to health and when combined with a live form of flaxseed oil, liver fat extract with iodine and liver powder such as the product Cataplex F by Standard Process.

This vitamin complex is invaluable for the heart muscle and to help it strengthen irregular heartbeats and increase the strength of the heart muscle in minutes.  It is also fabulous for muscle cramps caused by deficiencies.

But Vitamin F does not stop with the heart.  It is fabulous for giving your thyroid a jumpstart.  It can also keep your skin and hair from aging.  Want to protect yourself from the sun; sunburn, sunstroke, sun poisoning and sun sensitivity, consider vitamin F.  It also helps with dry skin and ridged nails.

Men will find tremendous benefit from vitamin F for prostate issues.  I mentioned earlier that this product can feed the hormone system.  In the same way it helps your heart muscle it also helps your hormones.  It is not only nutritional support for the thyroid but it also critical for benign prostate issues for men.  Men will find reduced trips to the bathroom and a better flow.

Women will find that Cataplex F will feed their thyroid, ovaries and liver which are all critical for hormone balance.  It also serves as a calcium supplement by keeping too much calcium from getting in the blood where it settle into the tissue.

Vitamin F has a lot of benefits that most people have missed.  Be sure to keep this in your medicine cabinet to handle many of the ailments I mentioned above.

To order your Cataplex F, contact me.

Ovarian Cancer Screenings

Posted In:
Diet/Nutrition | Health News | Mind/Body | Supplements

Are Ovarian Cancer Screenings Helpful?

Many screenings have been under fire and the latest to undergo “validation” is Ovarian Cancer Screening.  What has been determined is that the screening using vaginal ultrasound and the corresponding blood test does not reduce the number of deaths from this disease.

The procedure is very costly and often comes up with false positives which then causes a lot of pain and upset.  Experts such as New England Journal of Medicine, the Archives of Internal Medicine, the American Cancer Society have to agree with the facts that the results of screenings are not impacting the outcome.  As sad as it is to admit it, many cancer screenings seem to be overrated and not producing the fruit we all expected.

There are some screenings that are too few and often too late, but these cancer screenings could be helpful.  Screening for cervical cancer, prostate cancer, chronic kidney disease, colorectal cancer and lung cancer have proven to be helpful.

Ovarian health can be achieved through a number of methods such as BodyTalk and nutritional supplementation.  Many do not realize the mind/body connection in the healing process or in the development of disease.  Emotions also need to be considered and looking at things such as past traumas is a fantastic way to address ovary health.  For instance, the ovaries represent a number of concepts that could be evident in a person’s life.  Things that are causing imbalances in emotions and personal relationships such as issues of self-preservation or acceptance of life or maybe needing to release something or someone.  When these root cause issues surface, they tend to lead to tremendous healing and improved results in much shorter periods of time.

Even if ovarian cancer screenings aren't bringing the fruit we hoped they would, there are still options that can address ovarian issues once they surface.  Book your lifestyle health and nutrition coaching or your BodyTalk session today and learn what your body is trying to say to you.

FemCo (MediHerb) Part 2

Posted In:
Articles | Diet/Nutrition | Newsletter | Supplements

FemCoIn part I we discussed some of the amazing herbs that make up the supplement Femco to assist ladies in balancing hormones.  In Part II, we teach you how to read those labels on the herbs from the Mediherb Company, the makers of Femco.

Mastering the Label: (How to read the MediHerb Label)

I have often felt badly for patients who don’t understand herbal terminology on the labels of herbal products. It is easy for companies to hide, or maybe it is better to say not disclose important information that helps a person make an intelligent decision in deciding whether a particular product is best for them and a good value. For instance, many labels do not tell which part of the herb is used as in the case of Echinacea. Traditional use of Echinacea is on the root and not the flowering tops. The flowering tops are less expensive and less effective in most cases whereas the root holds high levels of important compounds highly esteemed. Here are a couple of things you can do to master labels quickly.

If you take a look at the MediHerb Label for FemCo notice it contains 166.6 milligrams per tablet of Schisandra fruit. That is actually FemCo_Label166.6 mg of a 6:1 concentrate (if you notice to left). Notice below the Schisandra fruit 6:1 extract it says “from Schisandra chinensis fruit 1.0 grams. This means there is actually 1.0 grams of Schisandra per tablet. MediHerb achieves this by concentrating the herbs at 6 parts to 1 and putting in the 166.66 milligrams of this concentrate. The same applies for the other two herbs listed below as well. This makes the value and cost of this product a real winner. It is concentrated enough to get the job done with just a few tablets (typically 3/day) and cost effective. You might ask for a more in depth article from us on the topic if you have interest in more detail.

Conclusion:

If you are experiencing hormonal imbalance feel free to contact our office and we can set up a consultation with you to see if this fits your needs. It is helping many already and may be just the help you are looking for too!

FemCo (MediHerb) Part 1

Posted In:
Articles | Blog | Diet/Nutrition | Newsletter | Supplements

- Curt G. Hamilton C.C.N., Medical HerbalistFemco

Part 1

A Female Tonic Extraordinaire!

This product has some very fast and amazing results for hormonal imbalances.  Curt does an amazing job of laying out the details.

Suggested Indication/Use: 1 tablet 3 times per day

FemCo is a fairly new formula released from MediHerb. It is designed to support health Female Cycles and offer support to women dealing with hormonal imbalances. Many women think it is normal to put up with PMS, acne, dysmenorrhea etc. during their cycling years, but this is not normal. If your hormones are balanced and the body is processing them correctly you should have either no symptoms of PMS, or very mild. Understanding the factors that can influence hormone levels in the body can help.

Your body makes estrogen for example, and after it serves its function for that day the body now looks at it as a toxin to be removed. It is metabolized through the liver and then excreted in the urine or the stool where it is harmless. If a patient has constipation the estrogen can be reabsorbed and re-enter circulation throwing your cycles into chaos! So having regular bowel movements daily will help immensely. (If you need help here contact us as soon as possible.) Improving liver function is another area that should be addressed. There is a berry called Schisandra that has been clinically reviewed and shown to improve Phase I and II Liver clearance. We will discuss this more in the sections below.

Another area many women in cycling years deal with is Cystic Acne, PCOS, Hirsutism or facial hair, etc. This can be a sign the women is either making too much testosterone or her body is converting estrogen into testosterone in high levels. Two herbs have historically been invaluable in helping to alleviate this conversion, White Peony root and Licorice root.

White Peony:

Is part of this new herbal blend and may be enough on its own to help correct this imbalance. Adding a little Licorice in severe cases may be suggested and can be a nice support for building adrenal health at the same time. Note: Licorice is contraindicated in hypertension.

Schisandra fruit:

The berry of a vine that climbs up the wall in China. They are used in Chinese Medicine for a number of ailments including Asthma, improving liver and immune function. Schisandra is considered an adaptagen. Think of an adaptagen as a natural substance from nature that increases your resistance to disease, stress, increases energy. It is also used to increase stamina and endurance. Being a berry it is a food.

One of the most profound things I have noticed over the years is its ability to sooth the mind and spirit. Many patients report that they can tell a difference in one or two doses and love this herb. This is nice, as the hormonal balancing effects may take a bit longer, yet a patient often reports they feel better quickly. Of course, we cannot make any claims about its ability to treat any disease or illness it can be a blessing to have such an herb.

Finally, remember I mentioned how important it is to improve liver function? Well, Schisandra is one of the best known to man.

Shatavari root:

An Ayurvedic herb in Indian tradition. It is a form of Asparagus. It’s used to nourish the female reproductive organs and helps build healthy blood. The name translates to “she who possesses a 100 husbands”, referring to the power to procreate attributed to this ancient herb. Think of this herb when you want vitality!

Part 2 will be posted next week...

It’s All in the Diet

Posted In:
Articles | Blog | Supplements

family-eating-heathy-2If you have been been diagnosed with Lupus and other diseases such as Rheumatoid Arthritis and Chronic Fatigue, and a cure seems very bleak, do not give up.

It does not take a rocket scientist to solve this quandary, nor does it mean that the diagnoses are correct. However, a great starting point to resolving your challenge is changing your diet.

When diseases like this come your way, one of the first things to do is to clean your gut and it is not difficult to do.

Two simple steps:

  • Give Up Most Refined and Processed Carbohydrates and Gluten
  • Add Proper Supplements such as Prosynbiotic

Proper diet and the right supplements allow your body to cleanse its intestinal lining.  These steps provide the necessary healthy bacteria to rebuild your natural intestinal flora, which will slowly rid your gut of abnormal disease-causing bacteria and yeasts.  Over time, these two steps will help you lose excess fat and weight, and provide relief and health for every single cell in your body.

When dietary triggers are removed, the lining of your gut gets healthier and your pain will begin to fade away.

You may also want to try the Standard Process 10 Day Inflammation Program.  This program consists of high quality organic whole food and herbal complexes that contain many beneficial nutritional constituents that are essential to our health including protein.

Contact Lynn for more information about Standard Process products and how you can use dietary supplements to improve the quality of your life.
