Why does a Microbiome Matter to me?

Microbiomes, a more recent discovery in scientific research, are showing us the importance of microbes in our body systems. Microbes are those things you may think are pesky such as parasites, fungus, bacteria and viruses. A microbiome refers to the landscape balance between microbes on the inside lining of various body systems (neighborhoods); oral, gastrointestinal, urogenital, respiratory and skin. Picture it’s like a neighborhood and you want all your neighbors to live in peace and harmony. Imagine if you suffer from or have compromises in any of these body systems and what it might mean to you if science actually could now explain a long term immune support deficiency in allowing your body’s own innate wisdom to address imbalances.

The microbes live in the body surfaces or environments mentioned above. But, we should actually like these. They can help balance our body systems. But so many chemicals, anti-bacterial etc. attacks on these critters have caused them to turn unfriendly. This can lead to an imbalance in our immune system which allows dis-ease or disharmony to affect our body. The microbiome plays a powerful role in our health. Each person has a unique microbiome that is impacted by your own environment whether physical or emotional. Awaken the Sleeping Giant Within You!

Do you feel like you are wandering through your life?  Maybe you don’t know what direction to go in next?  Are you confused?  Unaware or what to do or where you need to go next?  Have you ever noticed people walking through a parking lot completely unaware of the oncoming car as they walk down the middle of the aisle?  

I work with clients in my practice daily and encourage them to get in tune with their world and especially their body.  The lack of awareness you see in someone in the parking lot will also mimic the kind of awareness people have around their body.  The work I do in my practice works best when my clients are in tune and know what they want out of life and then I facilitate helping them get to that goal; health, family, career etc.  

My clients complete a questionnaire and I ask them; What are your goals? What do you want to achieve?  What do you want to look different in your life?  We then go to work and help their body move through blocks keeping them from that achievement; physical, emotional and spiritual.   They then ask, “what should I expect now that the session is done?”  I tell them any change is a good thing.  

I ask them to look for things like this:

Change in appetite, change in bowel habits, change in sleep patterns, change in moods, change in relationships, change in body parts, flexibility, changes in breathing patterns, changes in energy levels, what foods are you craving, do you have an decrease in gas and bloating, do you experience more headaches, what smells do you want to smell or avoid, is your stomach gurgling more than normal, who did you blow-up at, who are you more patient with, who are you more angry at, who at your work quit for a new opportunity?  

Get the point?  The possibilities are endless.  Any change is what I need you looking for to increase your awareness and awaken the possibilities inside you.  And the more you become aware of how your body, God, the universe is trying to communicate with you the sooner you are on the road to recovery and no longer floundering in the parking lot wandering aimlessly without attention to your path or dangers around you.   

I gave you a big list of things to notice because nobody gave me this list when I started my health and wellness journey.   I had very talented practitioners all around me that would speak of their “big shifts and changes” yet never really explained to me or understood my complete and total unawareness of my own body.  One of my very dear friends said to me recently, “You always seemed like you had a spirit that wanted to know so much in a body without an owner’s manual.”  It was a great description.  She added, “It’s more fun to communicate with you now because we never have to say a word.”

Test your awareness.  Ask another person to do this exercise with you.  Look at them for 20 seconds.  Then ask them to leave the room and change 5 things; maybe the remove one earring, flip their hair a different way, roll up a sleeve.  Then ask them to return and see what you notice in the next 20 seconds.  Were you aware?

My clients need to be willing to awaken and notice these kind of changes  in order for me to work with them.  My observation is that the ones that have awakened their physical body are the ones that make the biggest shifts in their life to achieve their desires.  And since I completely understand that not everyone has awareness from the get go, I am sharing a great tool, Awaken Essential Oil.  I call it my awareness oil.  This oil is to help you become aware of limitless potential. What in the World is a Microbiome?

Want to address in your own body the latest in scientific research?  Then you should be very interested in what a microbiome means to you.  A lot of the information on these has come out in the last several years.  In 2012, the Human Microbiome Project served to tell us that our relationship with microbes is much more symbiotic than originally thought.

What is a microbe you ask?  Oh, you’ve heard of them; viruses, bacteria, parasites and fungus.  All the things that can have a huge impact on your immune system and how you are able to support it.  The Project taught scientists that these bugs or critters are actually very helpful to us and in fact outnumber us 10:1 and reproduce about a million times more efficiently than we do.

The discovery of microbiomes has found that we have one for the skin, the gastrointestinal tract (including oral), the eyes, the respiratory system and the urogenital tracts.  The microbiome is the inner lining of these locations in the body where the outside world hits the inside world.  Let me explain.  Imagine the air you breathe.  Any number of “things” or microbes could be in that air at a given time.  Now imagine that air coming into your body through the nose or mouth and then down into the rest of the respiratory system.  Every part of the lining on the inside of your respiratory system that the outside air is now interacting with in the respiratory tract is what we are referring to as the microbiome.  That balance between how your internal good critters are able to live in harmony with what the outside air has delivered is your body ecology and you hope for balance.

Forgiveness is for Me!

Emotions or feelings. We all have them yet some days we may not know exactly how to handle them.  Have you ever felt like you were betrayed, like you wanted to get revenge on someone or you continue to repeat the past and have feelings of distrust towards others including yourself?  Is resentment keeping your from forgiving the person that caused you harm?  Is it possible you need to forgive someone or even yourself?  Do you feel like you still carry that negativity with you because you have not forgiven the offender?  Did you know that holding on to that negativity affects the cells, your health and the harmony within your body?  

These types of feelings/thoughts start to create disharmony in your body.  Negative emotions or feelings start to create disharmony in every cell in your body which leads to disease.  In fact your organs are affected by resentment and other negative thoughts that forgiveness can address.   The acid thoughts produce acid in the blood.  This is created because you are fighting a battle that is better won through forgiveness.

Picture an EKG machine where you can literally see your heartbeat on the monitor and watch the energy waves goes up and down.  Doctors can see disharmony by watching the monitor.  When we let negative emotions or feelings affect us it causes a frequency of imbalance in our body.

What if all we really needed was the power to forgive.  I recall a newscast where a young man had killed another young man in an inner city.  After a few years and a few attempts, the mother of the victim was finally admitted by the killer to visit him in prison.  She visited him for the purpose of forgiving him for killing her son.  When asked by the news reporter how she had the strength to face her son’s killer and forgive him she stated, “Forgiveness is for me!”

Experiencing positive thoughts can create harmony in the cells and in our body.  A nice gesture, a kind word, and gratitude from others has a healing power and so does forgiveness.  Not everyone may be able to take this step all on their own like that mother.  This is when we wish Forgiveness could be bottled.  Well, actually, it has been.

Managing money can seem daunting, but it doesn’t need to be an intimidating process! Like your health and relationships, everyday choices create your long-term outcomes. Whether financial freedom is a goal or a reality, see how these small changes can lead to not-so-small savings.

1. Divide your paycheck and start saving

It’s simple economics: You have to make more money than you spend. Even though we all understand this principle, it’s sometimes easy to let our budgets get away from us.

If you struggle with balancing your budget, start by dividing each of your paychecks between your savings and checking accounts. Set a specific percentage to automatically deposit into your savings account so you’re less tempted to spend it. There’s no substitute for pure, natural Young Living essential oils

You may have heard that essential oils can be used in the home as a natural substitute for unwanted chemicals, toxic products and synthetic ingredients. That’s all true! But what you may not know is that not all essential oils are the same, and there are definitely best practices for use.

Not all essential oils are created equally. Always be sure that you’re getting a pure, undiluted essential oil – such as those created by Young Living. Fragrance oils, for example, are NOT the same as essential oils. They may smell similar, but fragrance oils do not retain the same properties and qualities as undiluted essential oils.

In addition, most quality essential oils should come in brown or blue glass bottles. This helps retain potency and efficacy for as long as possible. Essential oils should be stored away from heat and direct sunlight to preserve their quality over the natural course of their shelf life.

Other important tips:

  • Only use the amount of an essential oil as directed for a specific purpose, or called for in a recipe. As with everything in life, moderation is key. More isn’t always better – it can sometimes cause irritation depending on your level of sensitivity.
  • Sometimes it’s necessary to dilute an essential oil in a quality carrier oil, such as Young Living’s V-6. You can learn more about how and why to use a carrier oil here.

Do You Really Need Vitamin Supplementation?

Do you really need vitamin supplementation?

My opinion over the years on this has changed and I do believe that it is not possible for us to eat enough organic, healthy food to supplement our bodies against the many toxins we face today.

Our foods are not grown the way they were intended and there are very few farmers committed to growing those foods at pure organic strength.  Farming practices have changed and simple things like crop rotation to properly mineralize the soil is no longer happening.  Chemicals are used to kill pests and fertilize our crops all of which end up in the plants and in our bodies.   Manufacturing practices have also created an onslaught of processing opportunities to create foods faster and allow them to sit on grocery shelves longer. That means preservatives. Let’s also consider the way our crops are now shipped across the world.  Nearly 60% of vitamin C is lost in an orange just by rolling across the room on the floor 10 feet.  Imagine shipping around the world?

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) creates recommended levels (RDAs) of essential vitamins and minerals and seeks to provide the level supported in medical literature that will:

  • optimize health
  • minimize chronic disease
  • promote healthy aging

To demonstrate the lack of nutrient rich soil, take a look at some of the mineral losses in our food supply:

  • Calcium levels down 48%
  • Iron levels down 96%
  • Magnesium levels down 83%
  • Zinc levels down 38%

The number of mineral losses in the foods that reach our tables in the last 100 years is alarming.  When you combine farming practices above with food processing losses here, you can see why vitamin and mineral supplementation is important.

Food Processing Losses

  • Up to 60% of Vitamin C
  • 40% of Vitamin B2
  • 30% of Vitamin B1

Mineral losses have also declined from blanching, canning, and freezing foods.  So now you see that unless you are truly eating organic, non-GMO (genetically modified organism) foods you are risking mineral loss.  Vitamin and mineral loss paves the way for cancer promoting environments, dementia, cardiovascular disease, glucose metabolism issues etc.

How do you know what supplements are right for you based on your age, prescription medications and lifestyle?  There is one most important thing you need to know.  If synthetic non-organic foods lose their strength to give you vitamins and minerals, then it makes sense that supplementing your body should only be with companies committed to creating non-synthetic, Non-GMO, organic, gluten, soy and dairy free products.

What is your Wellness Strategy for the New Year?

Don’t have one?  Before you create a Wellness strategy, let’s define what this means.

The word Strategy is defined in a business dictionary as the following:

  1. A method or plan chosen to bring about a desired future, such as achievement of a goal or solution to a problem.
  2. The art and science of planning and marshalling resources for their most efficient and effective use.

Now, for the dictionary definition of Wellness:

  1. The quality or state of being healthy in body and mind, especially as the result of deliberate effort.
  2. An approach to healthcare that emphasizes preventing illness and prolonging life, as opposed to emphasizing treating diseases.

Wellness is about not just physical, but also mental well-being.  So any plan that does not include both will fall short of the goal of Wellness.

Have you ever known anyone, you or a family member, that could shed the first 20 pounds, but then hit a wall or block on the last 15 pounds?  There is a very real reason for this and until you know the truth about what that extra baggage is about, your Wellness Strategy will be unproductive.   And that is contrary to the definition of Strategy above where it references “...marshalling resources for their most efficient and effective use.”

Here are five steps to move you closer to developing your personal strategy.

  1. Out with the old and in with the new.  Cleansing your body systems especially after the holidays is a step in the right direction to shedding pounds and old belief systems.  When the body is exposed to the toxic fumes from exhausts, chemical cleaners,  perfumes, and household cleaners, a cleanse is a great way to move those through.  Cleanses also create the vehicle to move out old emotions that latch on at the cellular level.  Learn more about Purification Programs.
